Socks
Yes my first post is about socks.
More precisely, the amazing sock-culture. Funny how school politics can be so absurd. Here's the lowdown on sock-culture. Your social status in school is determined by - guess what - the height at which you wear your socks. If your socks cant be seen, you're the coolest. As it gets higher, you, well, become more nerdy. In other words, the low-no-sock guys hang out together and high-socks are outcasted.
And that's only the surface. Yes, sock-culture has sadly more depth than you think. Sock-culture has a cousin - pant-culture. Similar in requirements, pant-culture invovles the height pants. Lower = better. Higher = bad. And so teens start wearing their pants so damn low it's freaky. Of course, too high is also freaky but you dont see that all aroud Orchard Road do you. So why are thigh-low pants cooler? Are they trying to showoff their extremely large crotch areas?
And what sort of idiotic, mind-numbing social caste method is that? It somehow appeals to the minds of some of the students in the best education system in the world (Singapore students did top the world math and science challenges, didnt they). This even makes extremely shallow social-casting methods like wealth or grades look good.
